About

Who We Are

Dutch Mill Cabinets began in 1976 when Greg Vander Feer, an avid woodworker since youth, opened his own shop.  Beginning in and serving the Southern California area, Dutch Mill over the years came to specialize in truly custom cabinetry.  Designing his own work, incorporating unique molding style and structural techniques, and adding an artistic touch with personal tailored functionality, Greg made Dutch Mill a shop in high demand for over 30 years.  In 1998 Greg’s son Ryan Vander Feer joined the company.  Soon picking up on the custom nature of the cabinetry, the father-son team worked out well, dramatically increasing productivity.  Ryan also through further education came to advance the shop in wood finishing techniques.  Greg eventually went on to teach part time in the Woodworking Manufacturing Technology program at Cerritos College as the main cabinetry instructor.

The company then decided to make a big change.  It moved to North Idaho and became incorporated. Greg’s son-in-law Brad Salie, who worked in construction and finish carpentry, came on board. Dutch Mill Cabinets has become the perfect blend of a cabinet shop that has the capacity to meet any custom cabinet need while remaining a hands-on family owned and operated company that deals with its contractors and customers face to face. With no salesperson or middleman, Greg Vander Feer, Ryan Vander Feer, and Brad Salie are Dutch Mill Cabinets Inc., providing superior quality custom cabinetry for the greater North Idaho/Coeur d’ Alene area.

Our Work

Dutch Mill Cabinets, being a custom cabinet shop, makes truly superior cabinets at a reasonable price. The shop’s work speaks for itself, between Greg, Ryan, and Brad a combined 55 years of woodworking experience goes into its cabinetry.  While using only quality materials and building methods, Dutch Mill stays highly competitive in terms of cost due to innovative shop setup, keeping almost everything in-house, and being fully capable of efficiently doing all aspects of the job their selves. Going the extra mile and accommodating the customer with the exact design they want coupled with experience and quality from start to finish, Dutch Mill is the best choice for any new construction or remodel cabinet need.

Our Product Infromation

Dutch Mill Cabinets retains many of the time tested woodworking methods that most other shops have abandoned to paltry production based practices. This is done in a timely and economical way by utilizing appropriate equipment as well as innovative jigs and shop setups.  For example, Dutch Mill uses “glue and dowel” construction in its face frames while almost all other shops use pocket screws or oftentimes no face frames at all!  While most shops simply nail the cabinet ends to the shelves or deck, Dutch Mill puts a rabbet or a dado in the end, glues it and then nails in the shelf or deck creating an exceptionally stout cabinet.  The list goes on and on, from the beginning up to the last step of coat after coat of pre-catalyzed lacquer with a custom glaze if desired; Dutch Mill is definitely a cut above the rest.
